IDY28000 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Bureau National Operations Centre Satellite Notes for 1200UTC Chart on 16 March 2018 Issued at 12:40 am EDT Saturday on 17 March 2018 Tropical Cyclone "Marcus" (Category 1) is located near the Cobourg Peninsula of the NT with extensive shower and thunderstorms in its vicinity. Isolated thunderstorms are visible over the remainder of the Top End. The monsoon trough extends from "Marcus" across Torres Strait to a small tropical low between the Peninsula QLD and PNG. Patchy low cloud lies across the remainder of far north Queensland due to a moist onshore airmass. Further south, middle and high level cloud is streaming from the Indian Ocean over southern WA, the Bight and southeastern Australia. This is the result of a jet stream and upper trough. Onshore winds are also directing low cloud to parts of the southern and central NSW coast. A strong cold front is located south of WA with a pronounced pool of cold air in its wake as depicted by the speckled cloud.
