Tropical Cyclone "Marcus" (Category 1) is located over the far north Kimberley
and moving west southwestwards. Heavy rain and thunderstorm areas are occurring
with this system. The monsoon trough extends from "Marcus" across the Arafura
Sea through Torres Strait to the northwest Coral Sea. Showers and storms are
active about the Gulf of Carpentaria and northern Peninsula district of QLD.
Further south, a strong cold front with embedded thunderstorms is moving over
the Tasman Sea while another strong frontal system is approaching Tasmania. A
surge of very cold air is visible west of this front over the Southern Ocean.
Onshore winds are directing areas of low cloud across the southern Australia
coast. The interior of the continent is mostly clear apart from patchy high
cloud streaming off "Marcus" over the southern NT.
